For standard electric cooktops, aim for at least 100 CFM per linear foot of cooktop width. Gas ranges need more power — multiply your total BTU output by 1 CFM per 100 BTU. Heavy wok or commercial-style cooking? Go for 900+ CFM.
Wall-mount hoods suit ranges against a wall. Island hoods are designed for cooktops in open kitchen islands. Under-cabinet models tuck neatly beneath cabinetry, and inserts let you build a custom hood enclosure to match your kitchen design.
Range hood noise is measured in sones or decibels. Under 50 dB is considered quiet, 50–60 dB is moderate, and above 60 dB may be noticeable during conversation. Look for variable-speed fans so you can dial down noise for everyday cooking.
Ducted hoods vent air outside and are far more effective than ductless models. Plan your duct route before buying — shorter, straighter runs perform best. Check the required duct size (typically 6" or 8" round) and ensure your exterior wall or roof can accommodate the vent cap.
Our experts will help you find the perfect range hood for your kitchen layout and cooking style.
